Parisian Street Style By Afro Fly

Afro Fly!
Hi everyone, I'm Afro Fly, a young naturalista, born and raised in Paris, France.
I love shopping a good deal online or at thrift stores. Yes I can spend a whole afternoon chilling at flea markets or on ebay.. shame on me!
I also enjoy hanging outside, camera in hand, being inspired by what the creativity and fashion sense from the streets can give me, that's how I've started taking streetstyle pictures, just for my own personal inspirational lookbook. So when I've heard Natural Belle was looking for a Paris reporter/naturalista, I just knew I had to submit my street style pics, and now it's official! I'll be bringing you street style with a naturalista twist from the streets of Paris exclusively for Ms Belle
I can't leave you without telling that I love blogging My readers & followers are mainly french-speaking, but you can follow me on facebook and spread your love and support on my page.

Hair Talk With Louisa Of Afroblush

Firstly introduce yourself? Where are you from and what do you do?
My name is Louisa, I often get called afroblush, but that’s just the name of my blog. I am a researcher, writer and blogger. I love things on the topic of fashion, culture, Africa, art, design, beauty and generally lifestyle.

How long have you been natural?
I have been a natural for just over one year. It’s my third time to go natural, I have relapsed in my last two attempts, but I have so much love and respect for my hair now, I cannot go back.

Green Baby

I'm loving Green Baby, the leading eco friendly baby company established in 1999, it's a one stop shop for ethically responsible baby items from nipple balm to cute (non twee) baby rompers! I'm loving this site mainly because it's has a great selection of non gender specific clothing (you don't know how sick I am of lemon yellow!!) I'm loving the striped rompers and sleepsuits and currently Green Baby has up to 75% of selected lines

Say It With A T-Shirt?

This morning I found a link to this site from a reader in my inbox! The Swirl Syndicate is a website dedicated to multi racial slogan tee's for teeny tiny people. The brand wants to show the richness of having mixed heritage with slogans 'I'm swirled', 'cafe con leche'  and 'she's my mommy, not my nanny'......I'm in two minds about the slogans though I get the tongue in cheek references I'm not sure about having my baby's ethnic origin emblazed across his/her chest. To me the tee's defeat the purpose and boarder on racial stereo typing whilst highlighting 'otherness', would it still be cute if a white baby wore a 'Caucasian' t-shirt? I think teaching children cultural pride starts at home and parents have a duty to amerce there child in it's cultural heritage whatever that may be. However the Tee's are really popular and lots of parents adore them.
what say you?

Back to the Beginning

“It’ll cost £40…Yeah, yeah it used to be £30, but I was doing you a favour at that price. And can you pay me in advance? I’m broke so transfer the money tomorrow into my account and I’ll do your hair next week, when I’m free” she commanded. In a melancholy haze I took her bank details, motivated by the ragged state of my hair, the narrow window of opportunity I had to redo it before the working week began again and an almost drug like dependence on her to fix my hair, ergo me (your hair is your beauty is it not?). I asked a white colleague what she thought; her bemused expression said it all. In her world you make an appointment, you go to a salon, you are quoting a price and that is what you pay only if the service is satisfactory. Enough was enough.

Cos For Excitement....

There are some shops that as I walk through the door I like to pretend I have transported myself into my very own walk in wardrobe Mariah Carey cribs style. Cos has long since been one of my favourite places for mix and match investment pieces and relaxed tailoring, but one look at their Spring Summer 2012 campaign sent my heart a flutter. It offers quality, cut and design taking a nod to the idea that simplicity can still make a statement, it's all in the detail.
Here are some of the staple items that have now been added to my ‘want it, need it, must own it’ list.

Nailing it : The Skin Project Pop up Shop

I've recently been getting lots of emails about eco brands for natural hair as many of us naturalistas love 100% natural hair products, but what about the rest of our beauty boxes? usually what is letting us down is our make up and nail polishes. Nail polish is the one element of my beauty regimen that could definitely use and eco make over. So I was pleased to find that Skin will be hosting a pop up shop dedicated to eco nail care....

"Skin has been working with the hair and beauty industry to create change makers. Our change makers want to make a difference, they are salon owners, colleges, product makers and trainees and trainers.

To create change, we will be holding a series of ‘pop up’ shops and special events. The events are a chance to be pampered, try environmentally friendly nail varnish, skin & hair care, and hear more about the big green makeover from hair and beauty experts.

In our first pop up 'Nailing it' we will be hearing from our Skin Salon Award winner, Max Centini about why it makes sense to be green and Skin’s founder Maria Adebowale. You'll get a chance to get your nails done, using environmentally friendly nail varnish, pick up some freebies and talk to product makers"

Nailing it will take place in Fulham, London and you can secure a free ticket here. Manicurists will use Jessica Cosmetics nail polishes which are Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP free, also check out Butter London, Zoya and Priti Nails for eco friendly polish

More information about the Skin Project can be found at: www.capacity.org.uk/greenerjobs/skin.htmlor to book a free place go to: www.skinpopupshop-eorg.eventbrite.com

The Business Of Natural Hair

It's been brewing for a while but it seems the cat is well and truly out of the bag, Natural Hair is big business I caught up with founder of 'The Business Of Natural Hair Workshop' Jacqui as we talk hair & Business.

Natural Belle: Tell us a about yourself?

Hi, well I'm based in the Midlands, and currently working on a couple of ideas - one of those being The Business of Natural Hair Workshop™ and Lovefro - 'another' range of haircare products for curly hair. Outside of that, I am training to be a 'women of the cloth' and fancy myself as the 'black alternative' to Nigella Lawson - The one and only Domestic Food Goddess!!! (you can connect with Jacqui @lovefrotweets)

NB: What is the business of natural hair work shop?

Well, the workshop - taking place on Saturday 14th July , is primarily aimed at budding hair care entrepreneurs and start-up businesses, who maybe omitted market research from their business planning stage and who want an overview of the natural hair industry, and the potential within. Those with a general interest in the market can also attend, however it is designed to add value to those individuals who want a piece of the market. Helping us through the day, natural hair care entrepreneur Margot Rodway-Brown, of Adornment365, will be joining us as a guest speaker, to share her thoughts and experience of the natural hair care market as well as Susanne Goller of Optimus Research Services, who will talk about the importance of market research, and cost effective ways of gleaning as much information about your product/idea as possible.

The One To Watch: Three Floor

Launched in November 2011, this brand is already being stocked at ASOS and Lipsy, people are raving about Three Floor. It’s quirky, fashion forward design is bound for success and the pace of it's rise is becoming something of a movement, Creative Director Han Chong has a lot to smile about. The play on colours, silhouettes, textures and the fact that it's just so prettiful definitely make this label one to watch.

The Protective Style

I'm not the greatest at protective styling, I like to change my hair to much to really commit to one style and due to my impending motherhood I'm in need of some easy breezy hair styling. I usually head for braid extensions or my trusty kinky twists (again with extensions) However I am no longer braiding my hair as my follicles just can take it any more! So I have been on the hunt for a versatile protective style for the later stages of pregnancy, labour and beyond. Inspired by Cipriana of Urban Bush Babes, Alicia James and Nap85 I've decided to give mini twists a try.
